You can register up to 5 hardware keys on a single account. Any one of your registered keys can be used to authenticate, so there is no need to designate a primary key. We strongly recommend adding multiple keys.
You can delete a registered hardware key at any time from your Ledn security settings. Deletion is permanent, the key will be removed from your account immediately and cannot be re-added without going through the registration process again.
Why register multiple keys?
Registering multiple backup keys means you won’t lose access to your account if a key is lost, stolen, or damaged. Ledn recommends keeping at least 2–3 keys registered at all times.
How to add a backup key:
Log in to your Ledn account (you do not need to re-enter your password if you are already in an active session)
Navigate to Settings → Security → Two-Factor Authentication
Select Add Hardware Key
Insert or tap the new key when prompted by your browser
Optionally, give it a name (e.g., "Backup Key – Home Safe")
The key is now registered alongside your existing keys
Viewing your registered keys:
From your MFA settings you can see a list of all registered keys including:
Key name
Date registered
Date last used
Enabled / disabled status
You will also see a count of how many keys are registered out of the maximum 5 (e.g., "2 of 5 keys").
Additional details:
All registered keys are interchangeable — any key can authenticate any operation
You will receive a warning when you are approaching the 5-key maximum
If you reach the 5-key limit, you must delete an existing key before adding a new one
How to delete a hardware key:
Log in to your Ledn account
Navigate to Settings → Security → Two-Factor Authentication
Find the key you want to remove in your key list
Select Delete next to that key
Enter your Ledn account password to confirm
Insert or tap any of your registered keys to authorise the deletion
The key is permanently removed from your account
You will receive a security notification email confirming the deletion.
Deleting your last hardware key:
If you are deleting the last (or only) hardware key on your account, you must switch to an alternative MFA method before the deletion can be completed. Ledn will prompt you to choose either TOTP (authenticator app) or SMS before the key is removed.
If you choose TOTP, you will need to complete the TOTP setup (scan QR code and confirm a valid code) before the key is deleted
If you choose SMS, you will need to confirm the switch before the key is deleted
This ensures your account is never left without a 2FA method.
If you cannot authenticate with any of your hardware keys:
If you have lost access to all your registered keys, you will not be able to delete them yourself. Please contact Ledn Support — our team will verify your identity and assist with account recovery.
